The Lord Lyon Petition

Building the Case for Recognition

The Lord Lyon King of Arms is Scotland’s heraldic authority — the official arbiter of clan recognition. For a standing clan to be formally recognised, it must demonstrate a living community of descendants connected by blood, name, or documented descent from a common progenitor.

We are building that community. Every person who registers is a name on our petition. When we reach 2,500 registered members, we will formally approach the Lord Lyon with our case. Here is where we stand.

What Happens When We Reach 2,500

  1. We compile the registry data and supporting genealogical evidence into a formal petition document.
  2. We engage a Scottish heraldic solicitor to prepare and submit the petition to the Court of the Lord Lyon in Edinburgh.
  3. The Lord Lyon reviews the evidence and, if satisfied, grants Arms to the chief and formally recognises Clan Preston.
  4. All registered members receive formal notification and the right to wear the clan tartan and badge.
Add Your Name to the Registry

The Preston family registry is our primary evidence for the Lord Lyon petition. The Court of the Lord Lyon King of Arms requires demonstrated community and genealogical depth — every entry in this registry strengthens our case.
