About This Registry

Who We Are

Clanpreston.org is currently an informal effort started to create a site for the global descendants of Clan Preston to connect with their history and one another, with the long-term goal of formalizing as an organization if there is enough engagement from descendants.

Near-Term Effort

To gather 2,500 descendants of the Preston line and submit a formal petition to the Court of Lord Lyon for a grant of arms, and if a qualifying descendant is identified, reinstate our Clan Chiefship.

The Preston name traces to Lothian, Scotland, around 1150, derived from the Old English preost-tun — the priest’s settlement. For centuries the family held Craigmillar Castle near Edinburgh, counted among Scotland’s most influential landed families, and maintained loyal ties to the Scottish Crown and to Mary, Queen of Scots.

Through emigration, war, and time, the clan scattered. This registry is the first organised effort to bring them back together — to count them, connect them, and restore their rightful standing in Scottish heraldic tradition.

Our Mission

Connect the global descendants of Clan Preston to their heritage, history, and to one another, and to preserve our Clan Preston artifacts and archaeological sites.

Along the way, we aim to document Preston genealogy worldwide, connect family branches that have lost touch, and preserve the history of a remarkable Scottish family for future generations.
